Wendy Malem has been the Director of the Centre for Fashion Enterprise (CFE) since April 2007, and has high-level strategic experience both within the designer sector where she worked for 17 years and more recently in higher education.
Co-organiser of the “Fashion as Photograph “ conference at National Portrait Gallery in 2004;has presented papers to international audiences on Creativity and Risk in Fashion ,Nurturing talent for the Creative Economy , Bridging the Investment Gap for the UK Designer Fashion Industry and AHRC funded workshops on Creativity in the Creative Industries.
In July 2008, published an article entitled “Fashion Designers as business: London” in the international Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management; and recently directed two research projects for CFE; the NESTA commissioned “ UK Designer Fashion Economy and barriers to growth in UK” (December 2008) and the DCMS “ High-end fashion manufacturing in the UK – Product and process ”(July2009).
She currently sits on the CFE/BFC/MAS Alliance which avocates a co-ordinated approach to UK Manufacturing and the UK Designer sector, and is also Dean of Enterprise and International Development at London College of Fashion and in that role is responsible for enterprise and steering fashion sector specific educational and skill based projects, often at international Governmental level.
A fashion design graduate, awarded an MBA in 1996 and Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Designers in 1996.
