The CFE is located at LCF’s Mare Street site, which is the former location of the historic Cordwainers College. Cordwainers College became part of LCF and the UAL in 2000, and LCF has continued a close relationship with the Cordwainers Educational and Charitable Trust which provides funding to several initiatives at the college.
In 2009, the CFE launched the Cordwainers Innovation Award, supported by Cordwainers funding, to provide the funds and expertise that footwear design graduates need if they want to explore luxury fashion as a new route to market. It is important for the graduates to develop sustainable business propositions for themselves, and the luxury fashion market has been identified as being appreciative of the innovative craftsmanship of the UK footwear design graduates.
