Thomas Tait
Canadian-born, but with British roots, Thomas Tait completed a three-year technical diploma at La Salle College, Montreal in 2008. After working as a freelance designer, he moved to London, graduating in 2010 with an MA in womenswear from Central Saint Martins as the youngest ever designer to complete the course
Thomas’s debut collection of striking tailored pieces for SS11 was successfully presented on the catwalk during London Fashion Week in September 2010 to a packed gallery in East London, immediately gaining Thomas a strong network of followers. Later in the year he was announced as winner of the inaugural Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize with a financial award and the opportunity to showcase his AW11 collection on the catwalk in a Dorchester Group hotel in New York.
Thomas’s accomplished AW11 collection and his specially designed footwear demonstrated a strong focus on structure. The clear and unique design aesthetic even received praise from famed footwear designer Manolo Blahnik. The collection also secured Thomas significant orders from highly influential fashion retailers and a host of positive comments from the international press.
Thomas has collaborated with online retailer Asos. As part of their new venture “Asos Inc” which supports emerging talent, he was invited to develop a line of leather handbags which are sold exclusively on Asos.com.
