Jean-Pierre Braganza
“One of the rising stars of London Fashion Week….figure hugging panelled dresses, tough girl leather jacketss….all were beautifully executed. Some covetable pieces that will no doubt find their way into the most stylish of wardrobes” Emma Sells, Elleuk.com February 2010
Born in London, but raised in Canada, Jean Pierre Braganza graduated from Central St Martins in 2002, winning the Colin Barnes Award for illustration. He honed a vast array of technical skills working for Robert Carey Williams and Roland Mouret and debuted his eponymous label at London Fashion Week in 2004, presenting at On/Off and The Royal Academy before his first on-schedule show in 2008. Jean Pierre has since shown at fashion weeks in Milan, Shanghai, Berlin, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.
Jean Pierre’s design philosophy is based on his obsession with the human form. He mixes intelligently cut patterns with ornate details; opting out of trend-driven design, instead creating a timeless yet powerful aesthetic. “I am always pulled by natural fabrics and the colour black….I have a definite aesthetic that is seasonless and trendless, and often carry ideas forward to the next collection, refining and exploring them until I have expressed all possibilities” Jean Pierre reveals Bauhaus and futuristic sci-fi movies, are his biggest inspiration, but looking at his collections historical and vintage influences are also revealed. Together, they form a modern, romantic statement for which Jean Pierre Braganza has developed a loyal following.
Jean-Pierre Braganza stole the limelight in 2008, when personally selected as Karl Lagerfeld’s ‘protégé’ after winning the Australian Wool Innovation Award creating a capsule collection from the finest Australian Merino wool yarns and fabrics. In his own words, “Quality materials deserve dedication and respect, whether that is the finest silk or the finest paper.”
In September 2010 Jean-Pierre Braganza teamed up with London’s Mayor’s flagship Barclays Cycle Hire scheme, Jean-Pierre showcased his creative inspiration with a limited edition print that featured on a select number of bikes across the capital and at his catwalk show at London Fashion Week in September 2010.
