THE PIONEERING YOTA PROGRAMME – A EUROPEAN COMMISSION FUNDED INITIATIVE.

Throughout 2015-16, CFE hosted four young designers from across the Mediterranean to spend up to six months in residence at CFE in London. The YOTA programme provided an opportunity for designers who have been in business for a minimum of two years to receive crucial support from the CFE and extend networks with key contacts in the United Kingdom to benefit their business in their home country.

Israeli design duo Muslin Brothers and Turkish designer Bashaques’ took part in the first cohort of the six month residencies at CFE which began in October 2015. The final two designers selected to take part in the YOTA programme were Maya Bash from Israel and Ece Gozen from Turkey. They were in residence in London from April-October 2016.

Basak Cankes (of Bashaques’) said of her experience, “In the future I want to be in some universal fashion shows not just in Istanbul, so the programme helped me to make it real in London”. While Muslin Brothers commented, “It was great to have the depth of support and the opportunity to view your business from afar.”

The young designers benefited from CFE’s renowned designer business support programme, delivered by experts in business planning, sales, marketing (traditional and digital) and legal coaching. The designers also received studio space at our East London incubator premises, accommodation, travel and support with living and material expenses. The programme welcomed applications from designers based in the following Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Tunisia and Turkey.

The YOTA programme finished in October 2016 and is now closed.
